Did that do them any favors? No, because the rendering API has nothing to do with the success of the Mac as a gaming platform.Īny competently written game engine has no trouble supporting multiple rendering backends, you can't port anything to the consoles without it. OpenGL was as industry standard as it could possibly get without outright cloning DirectX. ![]() Mac OS X supported fairly modern OpenGL for a long time before they decided to push Metal.
